A Medicare broker near you who works for you
ProCare Consulting is an independent Medicare broker in Land O’ Lakes, Florida, serving Tampa Bay. We compare Medicare plans from more than one insurance company, so we can show you options side by side. Our help is at zero cost to you, because the insurance companies pay licensed agents.
For people turning 65, people already on Medicare, and the family members helping them find someone to trust.
Maybe you started looking after a pile of mail and a few pushy calls. You want one person who will explain your choices and then let you decide.

Too many Medicare voices talk at you
When you turn 65, it seems everyone has an opinion about your Medicare. TV ads, mailers and callers all push their plan. Each one sounds sure of itself.
Many of those voices can only show you one company’s plans. That does not make them bad people. It just means they cannot compare for you.
What most people want is simpler. One person who knows the rules, checks the details and tells the truth, even when the answer is to keep the plan you have.
Why an independent broker is different
A captive agent works for one insurance company and sells that company’s plans. An independent broker works with many companies. That lets the broker line up plans from different companies and compare them for you.
Plans change every year. Networks, drug lists and extra benefits can all shift. Each fall enrollment season, a broker who is not tied to one company can look across the market again with you.
We start with you rather than with a plan. Your doctors, prescriptions, budget and priorities shape the conversation before any options are compared.
Agent, broker, captive or call center: what is the difference?
The difference is who they work with and who pays them. An independent broker works with several insurance companies and can compare them. A captive agent works for one company and sells its plans. A call center agent may represent one company or several, so ask. A SHINE counselor is a trained volunteer who sells no plans.
| Who | Plans they can show you | Tied to one insurance company? | Paid by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Independent broker | Plans from more than one company | No | The insurance companies, not you |
| Captive agent | One company’s plans | Yes | The company they work for |
| Call center agent | It depends on the center. Ask how many companies they represent. | Ask them | Ask them |
| SHINE counselor | No plan sales. Counseling on your options, one on one. | No. SHIPs are not connected to any insurance company. | A Florida Department of Elder Affairs program, at zero cost to you |
Medicare.gov points people both ways: talk to a trusted agent or broker and check the rules they must follow, or contact your State Health Insurance Assistance Program, which is SHINE in Florida. It says SHIPs aren’t connected to any insurance company or health plan.
Education first, then your choice

Four questions for any broker
Ask these of any Medicare broker, including us. A good broker will welcome them.
How many companies do you represent?
An independent broker should show you plans from more than one insurance company.
Will you check my doctors?
Networks change. A good broker checks current network information before you choose.
How are you paid?
Ask plainly. At ProCare, the insurance companies pay licensed agents, so you pay nothing for our help.
Will you be there next year?
Plans change each year. Ask who reviews your coverage next fall and who answers your calls.
How to check a broker’s license in Florida
Use the Florida Department of Financial Services licensee search. Type the agent’s first and last name, or the agency name. The results show whether a license is valid, and you can also search by Florida license number. Do this before you share your Medicare number with anyone who calls.
We are happy for you to look us up the same way. Ask for the name of the agent you will meet, then check it. The result tells you whether that person holds a valid Florida license.

Questions people ask about Medicare brokers
What is an independent Medicare broker?
An independent Medicare broker is a licensed agent who works with more than one insurance company. That lets the broker compare plans from different companies side by side. A captive agent works for one company and offers only that company’s plans. ProCare Consulting is an independent agency.
Does it cost anything to use a Medicare broker?
Not at ProCare. Our help is at zero cost to you. The insurance companies pay licensed agents, not the people they help. You can ask every question, compare your options and take time to decide without ever getting a bill from us.
How do I find an independent Medicare broker near me?
Look for a licensed agent who works with several insurance companies and will meet the way you like. ProCare Consulting is based in Land O’ Lakes and serves Tampa Bay. You can visit our office by appointment, or meet us by phone or on Zoom.
Will a broker push me into a certain plan?
A good one will not. We do not treat one carrier or plan type as better for everyone. We start with your doctors, prescriptions and priorities, then show you the options that fit. If your current plan still works, we will tell you that.
Is it a good idea to use a Medicare broker?
For many people, yes. A broker can compare plans from several companies in one meeting and explain the rules in plain words. Our help comes at zero cost to you. If you would rather have counseling with no sales at all, SHINE is another good place to start. Either way, you make the final choice.
